    Hemp seeds - good fats, protein and fibre packed

    With a rich nutritional profile and a wide range of health benefits for athletes, we knew we simply had to include raw organic hemp seeds in our Elite Pre and Post Workout Shakes. These tiny power-packed seeds contain all the good fats you’ll ever need and as much protein as a chicken breast!

    Rich in good fats

    Organic hemp seeds are high in polyunsaturated fat. Both Omega-3 and Omega-6 are crucial for optimum health but it’s worth noting Omega-6 is inflammatory.

    Omega-3 is an integral part of all cell membranes and regulates blood, heart and genetic function. It also prevents heart disease and reduces stroke risk.

    But there’s a limit to the amount of Omega-3 and Omega-6 the body can use and the ratio between the two is very important. A 1:4 ratio is spot on, but the typical Western diet is too often way out of line, coming close to 1:12 or more which can cause problems.

    When it comes to protein, hemp seeds are king. At a whopping 31% protein, they’re a pound-for-pound match with chicken.

    Not only that, but they’re a ‘Complete Protein’: they provide all 20 amino acids including all 9 essential amino acids – those which our bodies are unable to produce and thus we need to get from real food.

    Protein is hugely beneficial for athletes. It breaks down into amino-acids and is used to repair muscle which is damaged during training and racing. Protein is also key for immune function. Hemp seeds were always going to be a key ingredient in our Pre and Post Workout Shake for this reason alone, even before you add the other benefits! 

    Fibre-filled

    Hemp seeds are high in dietary fibre which keeps digestion and your gut healthy. Anyone who’s run a marathon will attest to the importance of a happy stomach at Mile 18!
